Who wore it better?

Long before Pharrell and Lena Dunham came along, the word “Girl” or “Girls” had major pop cultural significance thanks to Elvis, who starred in the 1962 musical movie Girls! Girls! Girls!. Opening Ceremony paid homage to the King last year with a capsule collection which included a sweater woven with the movie’s title. Amazingly, both Lena Dunham and Pharrell—who have championed the word in their own work (see: Lena Dunham’s Girls, and Pharrell’s new album "G I R L")—got ahold of the sweater and, as if they have a psychic connection, wore it during interviews
We have to give Lena props since she was the first to wear it. Back in February when Lena went on Grantland’s podcast to discuss a bevy of interesting things—including the Old Loves Tumblr, which I am now obsessed with h/t Lena—the sweater was a punchline between her and the publication’s editor-in-chief Bill Simmons. “People don’t realize you promote your show 24/7,” he joked, to which Dunham incredibly replied: “I didn’t know if it was too much or just enough. It’s actually Elvis promotional merchandise so it just happened to tie in. But I was just like, a rapper would do this. Why can’t I do this?” Touché, Lena!

Now a rapper, er semi-rapper, has. Pharrell wore it last night to perform tracks from his new album along with “Get Lucky.” Pharrell also took a casual approach to styling it, wearing it with a pair of jeans, sneakers, and a black fedora. But he didn’t just wear the yellow version—the singer/producer/renaissance man miraculously one-upped Lena by wearing two different versions, including a black one, in the same TV appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
So who wore it better? Let us know in the comments and head over to Opening Ceremony’s site if you’d like to purchase the black version of the sweater for a cool $255.
