For an actress who's regularly in her underwear (or less) on screen, it makes perfect sense that Lena Dunham would be similarly outfitted in the shoot for her debut book, Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She's "Learned." Most authors' photos (you know, the ones on the back flap of the jacket with bios and accolades) are rigid and reserved, snapped from the shoulders up like a practiced school portrait. A very practiced, non-pimply, precisely outfitted school portrait, but a school portrait, nonetheless. Then again, most authors don't (1) have their first Vogue cover before their first book release and (2) have styling and photography help from Shirley Kurata and Autumn de Wilde.

Earlier today, Dunham posted a few behind-the-scenes snaps from her shoot with Kurata and de Wilde, a duo we first fell in love with after raiding Kurata's quirky, colorful closet in a 2012 episode of House of Style. Filled with mod panache that similarly mirrors the vintage vibes of Not That Kind Of Girl's cover, Kurata could have easily pulled Dunham's bold, cropped sweaters and retro boy shorts from her own collection. Although considering her Catholic School upbringing, we're guessing Shirley might wear her undergarments under her clothes—or at least with, like, really bright tights. Personally, we're pulling for the leopard-print look, but we'll have to wait until the book's release in October to see what Dunham went with. (Or, if we're lucky, maybe she'll give us a preview when she hosts Saturday Night Live on March 8? Eh? EH? *wink wink* *nudge nudge*)
